    Fall Fund Fest has arrived!

October 1, 2008 - BETHEL, Conn. -- It's that time of year again...Fund Fest time! Since October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), here at Ability Beyond Disability we celebrate by holding a season-long fundraising initiative to support employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, entitled Fall Fund Fest.

Last year Fund Fest raised over $21,700 through fundraising activities held by friends, families and employees of Ability Beyond Disability throughout Connecticut and New York. There were office shenanigans, tag sales, wine tastings, dinner parties, and so much more!

Excitement around this year's Fund Fest is already growing. We have a Yankee Candle fundraiser in the works as well as a bowl-a-thon, handmade jewelry sales and ice cream socials at Dippin' Dots in Bethel. The more participation we get from the community the more successful this event will be...meaning more money raised to help people with disabilities secure competitive community-based employment!

Have an idea for a fundraiser? Not sure how to get started? Need help brainstorming activities? Call Greg Bastek, Director of Development today at (203) 826-3171 or email him at gbastek@abilitybeyonddisability.org.

Remember, these third party fundraising events can be done year-round to support the people we serve. You can set up a fundraising page on firstgiving.com and ask your family and friends to donate for birthdays, holidays or special occasions. You can hold a Pampered Chef party in July and donate the profit, or a cookie swap in December with an entry fee for each participant&the possibilities are endless, so be creative and decide how you want to get involved and help raise money for Ability Beyond Disability!

Meet Chris As a young adult with special needs, Chris needed help transitioning into the adult world. He needed to learn the skills necessary for living and working in the community as independently as he possibly could and he learned these skills at one of our community living facilities, which provides behavioral and transitional supports for young adults.
