Ability Beyond Disability to Hold 2nd Annual Aging ConferenceAging in Persons with Disabilities...Balancing PrioritiesAugust 17, 2009 - Ability Beyond Disability today announced its second annual conference on Aging in Persons with Disabilities will be held on September 10, 2009 at Leir Retreat Center in Ridgefiel, CT. This year’s conference entitled Balancing Priorities will explore key areas on which executive leaders must uniformly and consistently focus to successfully address the comprehensive needs of individuals with disabilities who are aging. The symposium, sponsored by the Leir Retreat Center, is geared toward organizational decision makers who recognize the implications of the aging demographic phenomenon and who seek creative strategies to provide effective care and services. This interactive seminar will focus on recognizing trends, maximizing health and well being, optimizing environments, energizing the workforce and leveraging strategic partnerships and will provide participants the opportunity to network with colleagues, to discuss ideas and to explore innovative approaches to care for a growing segment of the people we serve – those who are aging and whose needs are becoming increasing more complex. Confirmed guest speakers include: Peter Arno, Ph.D., New York Medical College, Professor and Director, Doctoral Program in Health Policy and Management, New York Medical College School of Public Health. Scott Dutton, R.A., President, Scott Dutton Associates, designer of hundreds of specially adapted homes for individuals with disabilities. Steve Goode, C.E.O., Put the Pieces Together, Nationally recognized lecturer, educator and dynamic speaker on topics including personalities, communication, conflict and perception as they relate in the workplace. Vidya Bhushan Gupta, M.D., M.P.H., Medical Director, Hudson Valley Developmental Disabilities Services Office and International expert on epidemiology and autism spectrum disorders. Mary Jo Peterson, President, Mary Jo Peterson, Inc., Nationally recognized speaker, author and specialist on Universal Design Principles. Jeffrey Schlicht, Ph.D., Associate Professor Western CT State University, specializing in health promotion and exercise sciences with particular emphasis on older adults. Nicole Schupf, Ph.D., M.P.H. Dr.Ph., Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, distinguished research scientist in the area of aging and intellectual disabilities including research on aging and Alzheimer's disease in adults with Down syndrome. The conference will be held on September 10, 2009 from 8:00a.m. – 4:30 p.m at the Leir Retreat Center, 220 Branchville Road, Ridgefield, CT.
