    Hord Scholars receive Awards

    Ability Beyond Disability presents scholarships to Danbury High students

    A shared belief in making the future brighter for people in our community lies at the heart of a long standing relationship between Ability Beyond Disability and the Hord Foundation. Each year Ability Beyond Disability proudly awards scholarships through the Hord Foundation to young minority students who wish to pursue a career in providing service to people with disabilities.

    On Friday, June 4th, Ability Beyond Disability awarded two $1,000 scholarships to Danbury High School students at the Hord Foundation’s 2010 Scholarship Awards Ceremony: Destiny Billie and Marquise Taylor. Ms. Billie will attend Long Island University for Nursing and Ms. Taylor will attend Central Connecticut State University for Elementary Education.

    Ability Beyond Disability is a 501{c} (3) organization headquartered in Bethel, Conn. and Mount Kisco, N.Y. It provides a wide range of services for approximately 1,500 people with disabilities. Today, its services extend far beyond the Danbury community into much of Connecticut and the Hudson Valley, New York. Meet Celeste Celeste works at a local company where she helps with company mailings. She interacts with her coworkers and has made a number of friends. This job means more than a paycheck to Celeste; it has given her a great sense of pride and has really boosted her confidence.
