Ability Beyond Disability names David Cappiello, Vice President of Development

Ability Beyond Disability, one of the northeast’s largest agencies providing services to people with disabilities, appoints David Cappiello as Vice President of Development, it was announced by Thomas H. Fanning, President/CEO of the organization.

In his role as Vice President of Development, Mr. Cappiello, a former state legislator and most recently Linda McMahon’s campaign manager, will be responsible for the activities of Ability Beyond Disability’s Development Department and manage its development, fundraising and outreach initiatives.

“Our success depends on our ability to grow and provide services to more people who will need our help now, and in the future,” said Fanning. “In order to do that we need to raise more money from new sources of support and I am certain that David’s leadership, knowledge and personal and professional experience will assure our success.

Mr. Cappiello will be instrumental in leading the fundraising efforts of Ability Beyond Disability. In addition to helping the organization raise over $5 million annually, Mr. Cappiello will be responsible for helping the organization overcome the likelihood of decreased public funding as both New York and Connecticut face tremendous budget challenges.

"State budgets are being faced with the largest deficits in their history," said David. "Organizations are hurting and are counting on philanthropic dollars to survive. I am committed to leading efforts to raise more money for Ability Beyond Disability so that we can continue to be a nationally recognized provider of services for people with disabilities."

Throughout his fifteen year legislative career, Mr. Cappiello, a resident of Danbury, CT has been extremely supportive of nonprofit organizations that provide services for people with disabilities. As a previous member of the Ability Beyond Disability Board of Trustees he is well aware of the growing need for services and the financial challenges present in meeting that need.

“David understands fundraising, is well known and respected throughout CT and has strong organizational and leadership ability and experience,” added Fanning.

Through its vision for the future, Ability Beyond Disability will double the number of people it serves, by growing existing services and pursuing much-needed specialty services. Included in the plan is the development of facilities designed to meet the special needs of aging adults with disabilities, the substantial expansion of employment and supported living services and the growth of service sites for young adults and youth with disabilities. In addition to growth in service areas, Ability Beyond Disability’s Vision for the future will also focus on strengthening and expanding its workforce, implementing new technologies to enhance the efficiency of service delivery and financing its future.
