    Addressing the Concerns of People Aging with a Disability

     

    • The birth rate of people with mental retardation is exceeding the mortality rate
       
    • By the year 2025, 50% of people with Mental Retardation will be over the age of 55
       
    • Since 1965, the life span of a person with Mental Retardation has increased from 18 to 66
       
    • Most, if not all, individuals with Down Syndrome will develop Alzheimer's Disease by age 50
       
    • As individuals age, they are more vulnerable to and likely to develop incapacitating diseases and conditions
